Probability of an xp driver working in vista

Victor

I have a Canon Multipass C75 multifunction printer. The guys at Canon have
not come up with drivers for windows vista and I don't think they ever will.
Can somebody tell me what is the probability that my current xp drivers will
work in windows vista? If they don't, do I have another option besides
buying a new printer?

Thanks,
Victor

Generally, XP drivers work in Vista. The exception is drivers where
Microsoft has completely changed how the driver system works in that
area (eg. graphics card drivers)
Problems occur when XP drivers rely on utility programs that run at
startup and require admin rights.

My guess would be that it would work, but it's just that - a guess.

Hit and miss. A lot of XP drivers work straight up in
Vista and some you have to use in compatibility mode.
Some work great, some sort of work, and some don't
work at all, and some may cause a freeze or BSOD.

You won't know unless you try. Just make sure you
have System Restore on and a restore point gets set
prior to installing the XP driver. Or, have an image backup.
I'll doubt you'll need to worry about that, the driver will either
work or it won't. But, you never know what might go wrong...
always be prepared.
