i have hp psc 1110 but recently i have been having some problems. i just
recently got the black cartridge refilled but when going to print it comes
out streaky i.e some lines come out perfect but half of a line is not
printed. i did the cleaning programme thats on my computer but it hasnt
worked. i went to the colour management section and it said that i had a full
black and half full colour.. so i decided to print out in colour.. but when i
went to print it in colour the page came out colourless, just with faded
black streaky and barely visible bits of colour??

is it just the cartridges that are the problem??should i replace both of
them completely??

I use a HP psc 1209. I refill as much as I can, but after a while the
printheads do clog up. You might want to place the printheads on a clean
paper towel moisten with water for a an hour or so, make sure the printhead
comes into direct contact with the damp area of the paper towel. This will
"leech" out some of the ink so make sure it is not going to stain anything
(put plastic under it). This might bring the cartridge back to life, but if
not, it is time to replace. I get 4 to 5 refills out of a black cartridge,
and 4 to 5 from the color cartridge. I even have a way of "cheating" the
cartridges into resetting the count of pages printed so they show full
again. Since I go thought 3 to 4 black cartridges a month and 2 to 3 color
it is a real cost saver to refill. I do not know about the "refill" sites
you see in the Malls and if their work is good, I have done it myself for
many years.

Old Devildog,
thank you very much for the advice, which i did, i took both cartri9dges out
and placed them on a damp paper towel. unfortunately i hasnt worked.. i did
the print test page and while the colour came out, the black is still
streaking. The unusual thing is the black cartridge had only been refilled
and hadn't been used until that time before i submitted the problem to this
page. i have included a copy of the page and the streaky problem.

Tina, have you aligned your printheads? It may correct the problem after
you've cleaned the printheads. Go here:
Use the HP Director>Settings>Print Settings>Printer Toolbox
Click Device services tab>Align the print cartridges.
Note: Your sample printout you submitted is your cartridge alignment sheet.

The posted print is the alignment sheet. It shows a lot of blank areas.

How long after the black cartridge quite printing did you wait to get it
refilled? If you waited too long, the ink can dry in the printhead or the
sponge. About the only thing you can do then is replace it. Sometimes I have
gotten ink to flow again by using 99% isopropyl alcohol instead of water to
help clean the printheads.

Also you might want to check the contacts on the back of the cartridge. If
they become dirty or have ink on them, contact will be lost and print
quality will be lost. Clean the contacts with 99% isopropyl alcohol and a
Q-Tip. Also clean the contacts in the printhead carriage (where the
cartridges "plug in") the same way. See if this works, if not you will have
to replace the cartridges. Be very careful to power off and unplug your
printer first, then make sure that the contacts are dry before replacing the
cartridges and powering up. Damp contacts will damage the printer for good.

One drop of Sewing Machine Oil on each side of the printhead carriage will
prolong the life of your printer. Do this once every two months.
Doing HP authorized printer repair since 1995.
