Printer-scanner combo

I am running XP Pro SP3 and I need to buy a printer-scanner combo that
will print 2 sides--one that may be available to other XP machines. Any
ideas or suggestions. I hope this question is allowed in this news group.

It isn't really On Topic as the question is OS independent and is more
apropos for; comp.periphs.printers

The networking aspects might be.
The Epson Artisan 835/837 can print duplex, has both a flatbed scanner
as well Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) and is networkable via Ethernet
and WiFi.
I believe a printer can be available to others without needing wifi or
other networking ability - provided you are willing to leave on the PC
to which it is connected. (Having said that, more and more _are_ coming
with wifi and/or networking ability, and I suspect ones capable of doing
duplex mostly are.)

Not really IFF the printer supports the OS.

There are multiple ways to share a printer but... as a NT Share one is
limiting to just printing.
By using the client software over TCP/IP one can take full advantage of
what the Multi-Function Printer (MFP) has to offer. For example the
scanning capability, noted in the preference of the OP, is lost.

I am a strong proponent of networked MFP device printing. I have
installed many dozens of external and internal HP JetDirect Print
Servers which includes the HP 310x which is a USB to Ethernet solution
(not to mention all the numerous devices with built-in networking
capabilities). Another option which I have setup has been a MPI
Bluetooth Print Server. I still have one where I connect an old Epson
LX-800 to my Vista notebook via Bluetooth printing.

Recently I setup a Win8 notebook to connect to a Kodak scanner+printer
that was hanging off a WinXP PC. It did not have any networking
capabilities, only USB so I used a NT Share. However the Win8 notebook
can only print. If had implemented a HP 310x then it would have more
capabilities but, with a greater cost of implentation which the end-user
had not been interested in.

In summation:
Getting a MFP that has its own networking capability provides the best
useability in a multi-platform environment.
Thanks for the replies and I will try the other news group for any
further inquiries. Thanks again.
