usb printer removal

I recently tried to update the driver for my HP printer (photosmart
D5460) but something went wrong during the process. The printer still
works but all access to the management software is blocked. Thus I
cannot consult the ink level reports nor can I set default printing
characteristics.

My guess is that it would be best to remove the printer altogether and
start again. The question is how to remove all record of a USB printer?

Is this the right way to be going?
TIA

Do a System Restore to a date prior to the attempt at updating the HP
software.

If that doesn't fix the problem, delete the printer driver and re-
install it.
Make sure you re-install the original driver, not the update.
Sometimes, updates don't work.
Remember the old adage, "If it works, don't fix it."
