Printer Problems

I am trying to install the Compaq A1500 All in One
(Printer/Fax/Copier) onto my computer which is running
Windows XP. It tells me that the port is malfunctioning.
It will not print, says that the printer is in use. I
have no clue as to what I need to do. Do I need to update
my driver or what. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the
program. It has printed several times but is not
consistent. Now it won't print anything. Please help...

Right click on My Computer and select Manage. On the following screen,
select the Hardware tab and look in Device Manager.

Under Com and LPT ports, is there a yellow exclamation point under the LPT
port (if the printer is connected to a parallel port on your PC)

This would indicate the drivers for the LPT are not installed correctly.
