Print Shop 20 Mot Starting After XP Upgrade

N

Nick di Carlo

I have been using Print Shop 20 flawlessly on Windows
ME for a few years. I recently upgraded my PC to Windows
XP. I am now receiving the following error when I
attempt to launch the program: "The executable is
unavailable. Try unlocking it again." I have uninstalled
and re-installed Print Shop 20 twice, once with no
programs loaded (using MSCONFIG), and once with a normal
startup. Both the uninstalls and installs seemed to
complete with no problem, but I continue to receive the
error. I have no problems with any other program on XP.
I have contacted Broderbund, but none of their
suggestions have helped.

Any help would be greatly appeciated

Thanks.

You can try running the program in Compatibility Mode. Look in XP's Help
& Support for details. If you have already tried this and/or the
program doesn't work w/Compat. Mode, then your older version of the
Print Shop may not work with XP. FWIW, I'm running a *very* old
version of The Printshop on my XP box that came w/Windows 95 and it
works just fine in regular mode. So it might just be your version and
you might have to resign yourself to buying a new program.

Thanks for you response.

I have tried the Compatibility Mode feature with no
luck. The truly frustrating thing about this is that
Print Shop 20 is the latest version of the software, and
the CD cover has the "Designed for Microsoft Windows XP"
logo.

I had a problem with PrintShop 20 and Service Pack 2 (RC1). It just
refused to start. However, when I installed RC2, whatever was broken
in RC1 was cleared up. After having installed the final release of
Service Pack 2, PrintShop 20 works just fine.

Are you sure that .NET Framework 1.1 is installed? The product won't
work without it installed. I tried uninstalling .NET Framework 1.1,
and PrintShop 20 refused to work until I reinstalled it. I also
installed .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1, and PrintShop 20 refused
to work properly. It looks to me as if PrintShop 20 is dependant on
the original .NET Framework 1.1 as provided on the installation DVD.

I didn't realize this was the latest version. It looks like Mr.McDaniel
has got the answer for you. A big thank you to Mr. McDaniel!

I uninstalled and reinstalled .NET Framework, as Donald
McDaniel suggested, and Print Shop now works!

Thanks to everyone for your help.
