pps issue on XP home edition

T

Totts

I recently bought a new unit with XP home and switched everything over
without many problems except getting the .pps extensions to play. I get a
window that advises to create an association in folder options, which I tried
repeatedly without success. Is there an issue with .pps applications on XP
home? I have windows powerpoint viewer 2007 which shows installed and
working. Anybody have any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks Daryl

Are these .pps files in Outlook Express?

Unable to open .PPS attachments directly from Outlook Express using XP/SP2
or XP/SP3:

Yes, using Outlook express and getting attachments that have a pps extension.
Pretty well everything else opens but anything with .pps kicks back to the
error message. I have gone into folder options and changed the program to
open it but nothing works so far, Thx

sorry for the delay, working night shifts and sleeping. Also, first time I
have used a forum like this and it takes a while to figure it out. I used the
fix and it works good now. THANKS!! just one question, the pps files will not
open in outlook express (same error message) but if I drag and drop it onto
my desktop, it opens right away. Is this normal? I can handle it as is but if
I can fix that part, makes life a little simpler. Thanks so much for the help

If you applied the fix correctly and the pps files still do not open in OE:

Save a pps attachment to your HDD. Right click on it and Open With | Choose
Program. Find and choose a program that works, (Windows PowerPoint Viewer),
and then check the box: Always use this program to open this kind of file.
This should enable you to open these attachments in the future.

You may have to close and reopen OE.
