Trouble with File associations in Folder Options

Guest

I have set .pps extensions to be opened with PowerPoint Viewer 2007 in the
Folder Options but when I try to open a pps file that is an attachment in
OutLook Express, it gives this error: 'This file does not have a program
association with it for performing this action. Create an association in the
Folder Option Control Panel'. If I download the attachment to a folder then
click on it, Powerpoint Viewer will open the slideshow with no problem. I'm
running XP Pro, SP2; OE6.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sharon,

Re-install the viewer:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...40-14E1-467D-8DCA-19D2A8FD7485&displaylang=en

At the company I work for I have had a problem with an earlier version of
the viewer & the quickest way was to re-install the viewer which cured the
problem

Remember that when you open the attachment it creates a copy in your profile
which is destroyed when closed. Don't work off one, save changes & close it
because you'll lose it

Another thing you can do it to right-click a PPS/PPT file, open with & make
sure you check the box to associate that chosen application with that file
extension.

Awaiting your response

Sharon:
Access the website at http://windowsxp.mvps.org/ppsopen.htm and download the
PPSFIX.zip file; unzip the contents and execute the ppsfix.exe file that's
extracted.

We've encountered that same problem you've experienced about three times
during the past few months and each time we were able to resolve the problem
with the registry fix contained in that ppsfix.exe file.

Sharon,

I don't recommend you download & run something that isn't proved to be safe

Anna,

If you had to run it 3 times it shows its not working properly

Newbie Coder:
You misinterpreted my remarks...

We employed that "fix" (about) three times on DIFFERENT OCCASIONS when we
encountered the same problem as Sharon related. On all occasions the fix
worked.

I would not have recommended that program if it was unsafe in any way.

Ramesh,

Someone has to be the first to try it

Because its an exe on a website doesn't prove that its genuine...

Hi Newbie Coder,

While I appreciate your caution, I'd also like to ask you, what must an author (in this case, I'm the author) do to prove that their product is genuine. If you search Google Groups, you will see a number of positive feedback responses about the tool and the instructions contained in the page, by a number of posters. Moreover, instructions are provided in that page on what exactly the utility does.

Of course, one can always run Virus / Malware checks before running the tool, if they're much concerned.
