Folder Options

Don

I am running Windows XP Pro edition with the latest updates. I frequently
receive emails with PowerPoint slideshows attached that will not open.
I get the message, "This file does not have a program associted with it for
performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control
panel."

I have downloaded the PowerPoint Viewer program (again), gone to Control
Panel/Tools/Folder Options and find that the PowerPoint Viewer program is
already designated to open this file. I have also "pinned" the PowerPoint
Viewer program to the Start Menu. However, none of this has solved the
problem.

Can you offer any suggestions?

Did you get the 2007 version of the viewer?

PowerPoint Viewer 2007

In the PP attachments that you receive, do they end with "x" in their
extension (which is the new zipped document format in Office 2007)?
Hopefully the 2007 of the viewer will handle the zipped doc format,
especially since the above download page lists some .<ext>x doc formats.
Otherwise, rename the extension to .zip and extract the contents to get
at the files inside the compressed file.
