please help: win2k net use not working

W

Win2k Net Use

I cannot map drives from a win2k machine to certain win2k machines and
winnt machines. I get "System error 1326 has occurred. Logon
failure: unknown username or bad password."

1. net use works from win2k machine to win2k server
2. net use does not work from win2k machine to another win2k
workstation or winnt workstation.
3. net use does work from the other win2k machine and winnt
workstation to the win2k workstation in question.
4. I can ping from win2k machine to win2k and winnt machine using
both IP and machine name.
5. I have tried using both name and IP address in "net use x:
\\...\sharename"
6. I have tried setting identical usernames/passwords on machines
involved
7. I have tried setting the registry key "enableplaintextpassword" to
both zero and one.
8. I can map from other win2k machine to winnt.
9. The problematic win2k machine used to be part of a domain. I
changed its name and changed it to belong to the workgroup "workgroup"
so that it matches the others.

What is wrong? Why can't I map drives from this one win2k machine?
It can see the machines I want to get to ( via ping, net view, etc ).
All machines are on the same network. NetBios over TCP/IP is enabled
on all.

System error 1326 has occurred - Logon failure: unknown user name or bad
password.

Symptom: when using net use to map a network drive, you may receive "System
error 1326 has occurred. Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password."
message.

Resolutions: 1) create a user account on remote computer; 2) need to enable
the guest account; 3) make sure the remote computer doesn't use auto-logon
and blank password; 4) make sure you have a folder or drive shared on the
remote computer.
