Win2k Can't see others on network

I recently added a Win2k professional workstation to my
network with all updates and SPs. I am not using a
domain, just a workgroup. I have 1 NT3.51 computer, 4
Win98 workstations and now the 1 Win2k workstation. I am
using DHCP from a linksys router to get to the Internet.
All other PCs can see the Win2k station in network
neighborhood and can map to drives on the Win2k station.
The Win2k station can not see any other computer on the
network. I can ping any other computer on the network
from the Win2k computer and can get to the Internet. When
I use network places I can see the workgroup and the Win2k
station but nothing else. I can not map drives or
printers from the Win2k computer but other computer can
map to it. I have tried "net use" and "net share" but
still the same thing. I have setup a persistant ping and
then tried to find the station I was pinging but this did
not work. I setup a Lmhosts file and this did not work.
At this point I do not know what to do. Please help. TIA

Check for any firewall software on the Windows 2000 pro box. Disable it if it's there. Make sure that netbios over TCP/IP is
enabled.

Thank you,

Reboot all of the systems and turn them On, it may be an IP conflict. Do you
set them as static IP address or Automatic?

Hi Mike,

I have a similar problem, except that the Win98 machine can't see my W2K
system either. However, your solution of disabling firewall software is not
an option because both connect to the Internet via a router connected to a
DSL modem (Norton's Internet Security product is present on both machines).
The router provides some protection, but not enough. Is there another
potential solution that WON"T leave our machines vulnerable?

Cheers,

Ted

Make sure all computers are in the same workgroup and that all useraccounts
exist on all computers (W2K/XP's). Got File- and printersharing loaded? Is
Netbios over TCP/IP enabled (Advanced properties of TCP/IP, tab WINS)?

All computers are in the same workgroup. I have the users
loaded on the Win2k computer. The win98 computers can see
and access the Win2k computer but the win2k computer can
not see the win98 computers. I have tried the Netbios
over TCP/IP but this did not help. I have checked all the
simple stuff and use Win98 and Win2k in other networks
setups with the same setting with no problem. Still can't
figure this one out.

Using automatic IP setting and I don't have any
conflicts. This problem has been going on now for almost
3 weeks. I use the same setup with other Win98/Win2k
networks and don't have these problems..

Thanks Hed..............
