Please can some one help me?
I have tried to post this problem in the messenger forum, but got no help.
I had windows messenger, but wanted to use the new msn messenger plus (with
messenger 6.1). So I found a tweek to uninstall and remove windows messenger
completely from mylaptop. But no matter how much I try, I can only get the
sounds to work for some of my contacts when they sign in online and not
others. I have assigned sounds to most of my contacts. Only one of my sons
sounds work for me when they sign into their account (they all use the same
pc), the other ones I get no sounds at all (not even the default) and I dont
get the little box up to say I have a new contact online.
Is this a bug for the msn plus?
The plus messenger has better features and most of my contacts have it and
they seem to have no problems.

Hi,

Try to unistall both versions and then install the newer
version you want to.Don`t be afraid about your
contacts..you will not lost them.

Thanks for the reply, but I have lost count how many times I have
uninstalled and reinstalled. I had the same problem before I reformatted a
few weeks ago, so I dont just dont know what to do. Do you think its a
little bug of Plus?

Even though you "uninstalled" the offending application, the registry is
still loaded with bits and pieces of the program with settings and your
configs. This is a good fix but be careful. After uninstalling go to run
type in regedit. Here export a backup copy of your registry to your
desktop - FIRST. Remember, this is the brain stem of this ole eyed
hummer. Then do a search for messenger and delete any references to it.
Use specific key words for this program. Once done do a disk clean,
purge all temp files and folders, reboot and install. Hopefully now you
can become chatty Katty again.....................

Thankd Doug, but although I have used regedit before, I am not really that
confident about using it. Can you point me in the right direction on how to
do what you have explained to me? I need it spelt out to me in easy terms as
you are talking to the original blonde bimbo here ;-)

Are you trying to use the Messenger Plus! by Patchou? If so, You need
to install it on top of Windows Messenger.
