Echo when I play sounds or music

Earlier tonight I installed MSN Messenger 6.1 and when I set up the Sound/Video Tuning Wizard all the audio on my computer started having a echo. I uninstalled MSN Messenger but it continues! I cant get rid of this echo. I tried System Restore to redo it but it didnt work.

Check the XP "Volume Control" to see if your microphone is still on. If
it is it can cause an echo...echo...echo...
