sounds in messenger plus

Please can some one help me?
I had windows messenger, but wanted to use the new msn messenger plus. So I
found a tweek to uninstall and remove windows messenger completely from my
laptop. But no matter how much I try, I can only get the sounds to work for
some of my contacts when they sign in online and not others. I have assigned
sounds to most of my contacts. Its the same for my sons who all use the same
pc. Only one of my sons sounds work for me when he signs into his account.
The other ones I get no sounds at all (not even the default) and I dont get
the little box up to say i have a new contact online.
Is this a bug for the msn plus?

What version did you install of msn messenger.
Uninstalling windows messenger was a mistake,4.7 is
still the best,5.0 has problems.
Anything above 5.0 or plus,is msn messenger,designed
really for,msn explorer,a dial-up internet connection.
Useing hotmail means you dont use explorer so why did
you install it expecting positive results.

I installed messenger 6.1
The features of messenger plus are nice, and its cam features are better,
without having the pic in pic view.
Altogether its has better features and all of our friends and contacts have
it.
I have 2 internet connections. AOL dial up and usb 128 cable connection. I
use the cable connection on my laptop and that is where i have the problems.
I didnt know that plus had to be used by dial up and msn explorer. So any
way... is there something I can do to make the sounds better?
