Process Explorer
(Freeware)
Windows OS: Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP
Languages: English
Description: Ever wondered which program has a particular file or directory open? Now you can find
out. Process Explorer shows you information about which handles and DLLs processes have opened or
loaded. The Process Explorer display consists of two sub-windows. The top window always shows a list
of the currently active processes, including the names of their owning accounts, whereas the
information displayed in the bottom window depends on the mode that Process Explorer is in: if it is
in handle mode you'll see the handles that the process selected in the top window has opened; if
Process Explorer is in DLL mode you'll see the DLLs and memory-mapped files that the process has
loaded. Process Explorer also has a powerful search capability that will quickly show you which
processes have particular handles opened or DLLs loaded. The unique capabilities of Process Explorer
make it useful for tracking down DLL-version problems or handle leaks, and provide insight into the
way Windows and applications work.

having to rely on the supplied uninstall program (which may leave files or changes behind). To use
it, you simply launch the installation program from the Total Uninstall interface and select the
system areas to be monitored. The program will then create a snapshot of your system before it
installs the new software and an additional snapshot after install completes. It then compares the
two snapshots and displays all changes in a graphical tree view, marking all values and/or files
that have been added or changed as well as some before/after details. Total Uninstall will save
these changes and if you decide to uninstall the application, it will reverse all changes to the

Not sure how I should do this as the newer version 11 is payware.

It's Liteware. The change occurred after the program was nominated for PL2005 - the odd description
on PL2005 is a result of the timing of the change.

I'll start a discussion thread asking about the preferred version. Please post a revised description
when that's been discussed/decided.
Version 10.1 can still be downloaded directly via the link below but I
cannot find a page for the download, only the direct link. Would it be
preferred to have a download link to a page rather than a direct download?

A download page is *usually* better - AFAIK the best link in this case is the direct download.

[PL] PL2006 Program Submittals -- LAME
My information *was* specific: "11 (LINK 2 DESCRIPTION) download v
3.96.1 encoders/decoders (2004-07-24) (601 KB)". Only the file name is
missing.

Hello Demetris,

Let me rephrase that. . . Think "PAD file". Program information should be posted in the "standard
Pricelessware format".

If you post "encoders/decoders" I have to go on-line and look for the file name. I may have to jump
through several hoops before I find it. . .

Cutting and pasting a properly formatted line of information is a whole lot easier. The following
"format" examples are copied from the BUSINESS-HOME page.

download page v 4.10 (1999-10-30) (convertsetup.exe) (780 KB); (convert.zip) (152 KB)
download page v 1.1.4 (2004-12- ) (OOo_1.1.4_Win32Intel_install.zip) (65807 KB)
download page v 3.03 (2004-11-28) (wordweb.exe) (6088 KB)
In my opinion, either the program name has to change to something that
specifies that it is mitiok's LAME set, or, if it stays, mention must be
made of the LAME project. If the second, I'm sure there are better ways
than the one I suggested.

A significant revision of a program description should be discussed with the group in a separate
thread. When there is a consensus of opinion the program description should be posted in this
thread. It's done that way to avoid the alternative - several competing program descriptions. That's
something that isn't mentioned on the PL procedures page. . . yet. . .
About source code: I never said anything about "best source code". I
mentioned source code in my suggested revision and note only to make
clear what the project page is and is not.

Humble apologies for the unnecessary rhetoric (re problems that have occurred in the past). . .
