Steven Burn has downloaded the programs. He will compile the CD and
create the ISO. :) :) :)

Can anyone tell me from looking at their installations if it's okay to
redistribute these two apps:

QuickTime Alternative
Real Alternative

I have finished *most* of the include/omit list - just a few to go. A
copy of the current status is below. I've been looking at web pages,
readme's, EULA's etc. all day. Let me know if it looks like I goofed on

I have been really busy for the past couple of weeks, and have had very
little time for the computer. Has anyone heard from Danny since the big
disaster? I have been thinking of him a lot. Is he okay?

My recollection is that Real were not particularly happy about their
proprietary codecs being distributed as a part of RA.
I can find nothing to back this up atm...

The author's web site is accessible ATM - I couldn't reach it the other
day - but AFAICT no info about redistribution. . . except (at the
bottom of the page) "Copyright 2004, KL Software. All rights reserved."

Sure. But they can't copyright the Real codecs can they? Which is the
issue. Web searching brings up a few bits of hearsay about 'intellectual
property rights' and 'unethical'.
I have an absolute recollection of Real nearly pulling the plug on RA a
few years ago, but can find no source to back this up, and no source to
say what Real's current position is.

ATM it looks like they should be omitted from the CD. ISTM KL Software's
statement prohibits redistribution of the two apps by the general public
(lacking any information to the contrary).

Which makes Real's position on this a moot point. . .

That's what alway seems to happen when Steven Burn gets going on
something. :)

The downloading reminded me of last year - posts to ACF every few
minutes saying *another* Category was done - except this year instead of
three people we had a one man band. Now I'm *desperately* playing
catch-up. . . ;)

It was an impressive display of bandwidth, and generous donation of time
that I am in awe of. Thanks Steven, great job.
As Nicolaas Hawkins has volunteered to be the burner for our area, and the
fact that I didn´t exactly do a roaring trade last year, I´ll sit it out
this year and just be an unofficial burner. :)
Keep up the good work Susan, you are the glue that holds us all together.

Indeed so. I wasn't exactly overwhelmed with requests last season, either
.... I think I may have done about a dozen - and that includes my own
give-aways and one to set up the land of the Bunyip with their own burner.

We're getting close to the finish line (a bit of checking still to be
done). Critics are needed. The more the merrier. . . ;)

I uploaded a preliminary ZIP file that contains the web pages etc. for
the PL2005 CD - everything *but* the program files. Steven Burn has
given it a quick test (he replaced the shellexe.exe file - the one in
the ZIP is N.G.) - otherwise so far so good. The file is here:

http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/ftp/2005PL-CD.zip
(249 KB)

Please download the file, unzip it, try it out and post your comments.
Is it easy to navigate? Are there errors, notes that should be added
etc. etc. etc.

All suggestions are welcome - I'll implement the *easy* improvements
this year. . . ;)

The PL2005 CD should be finalized soon. After that Steven Burn will
create the master CD and the ISO.

Volunteers with high speed connections are needed to burn and mail
copies of the CD to the volunteer burners who *don't* have high-speed
access.

Volunteers for this task will be given *priority* access to the ISO. . .
not that that will to influence anyone's decision. . . ;)

May I have a show of hands please.

Unfortunatly my free time is is practically non-existant lately. When
it's ready though I can host a download of the ISO.

Thank you. I just revised the wiki page to show this info:

http://www.markcarter.me.uk/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?PricelesswareCd

Tasks and Volunteers:

1. Host PL2005 ISO

Army Redleg (limited distribution)
Ashlyn Huq (limited distribution)
Steven Burn (limited distribution)
burnr (limited distribution)

2. Create bit torrent

MAMEngineer

3. Upload to alt.binaries.freeware

Jo

4. volunteer burners

Mark Warner
Omar
REMbranded
Adrian Carter - adriancarterau (AT) yahoo (DOT) com (DOT) au
harsha godavari (Canada) -
Nicolaas Hawkins
Puppykatt (Western Canada, and North-Central U.S.A.)
Danny (Thailand)
Semolina Pilchard (UK)

---------------------------

When Steven Burn has the ISO on-line the people listed above who have
high-speed connections will have first crack at the download.

This is probably a good time to ask if there are any other volunteer
burners.

We can start a list of people requesting the CD soon - I think the wiki
will be a good place to consolidate the requests into a single list.

That's the plan. It seems a bit early to start the list of people who
want to receive a PL2005 CD - I'll start a thread for that as soon as
some of the volunteer burners have copies of the CD and are ready to go
to work.
