As HP are not going to produce a driver for this printer HP 1218, does
anyone know a quick fix?

The only thing to really suggest is that you try the driver(s) for similar
models that do have Vista versions. I have very little knowledge of HP
units, but for Canon, the trick is to find the model with the same number
and color ink cartridges... for example, the i560 will install in XP x64
with 64 bit drivers for the ip3000, the i860 with drivers for the ip4000 etc
etc. Happily for us, most Canon printers do have Vista drivers, but it's a
neat trick if they didn't.

As for which HP models the 1218 is most like...... sorry, that's your
research.

Have you tried to install the XP software for this printer but using
compatibility mode set to XP with SP2 and Run as Administrator.

=en&cc=us&prodNameId=29790&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=29789&swLang=8
&taskId=135&swEnvOID=228

is for the 1200 and 1220 and probably works on a 1218.

I'm using PCL5e in this way on my LJ220d but you might want to think
about getting a current model with full VISTA coverage since the
contemporaneous reviews I read on the 1218 were not exactly
enthusiastic!

Thanks for info will try that, actually the 1218 has served me well with
good results. Have now a Canon MP600 which is good, but would still like to
keep 1218 for some work.

Hi,

Tried everything but no luck, you would think one could find a basic driver
that would do the minimum to allow the printer to be used.

Sorry to hear that.

You tried the XP drivers, including the ones for the other models I
mentioned, and using compaatibility mode with Run as Adminsitratorto
install?
