HP Photosmart 1218 loses connection

I have downloaded the driver from HP but I still have
problems. I may be in the middle of a print job and
suddenly the "printer not connected" warning pops up and
the print job is interrupted. One icon on the tray
says "J: No card inserted in the hp photosmart 1218
series printer." I ordered an installation disc but when
I try to use it the auto run does not function and
nothing happens, (wrong disc from HP?).
Any help?

Is this printer connected via USB? You might want to try changing the USB
cable?

J is probably the drive letter asssigned to the card reader on the actual
printer.
