Permissions Question?

D

Don

I run XP Pro at work and at home.

I have an .EXE file on CD that runs great on my computer at home.

When I try to run it on my computer at work, I get an error message
telling me that I don’t have permission to run that file. I’m an
Administrator on my computer at Work, so I don’t understand how I
can’t have permission to run a file.

Is there an additional permission level, or setting that I’m not
aware of?

Assuming you are on a LAN at work, you'll have to check with your admin
for that.

An exe file is an application. It is installed on your home computer
with all the relevant registry entries. You would need to install the
application on your work computer to be able to use it.

Hope this helps.

Your "works" pc probably has it's security program set to block any/
all "strange" programs.
You would be taking chances (bug-wise) loading your stuff onto a
network anyway. Does your boss know? :)

Yes. If your work has an IT group, it's quite possible that they have set
policies on the system - for extremely valid security reasons - that prevent
running EXE files from removable disks.

If your work does have an IT group, trying to bypass the policies are really
not a good idea, to the point where the term CLM comes to mind.

It would be best if you discussed your need to run this CD with the IT
group, or your manager.

You can call yourself Leythos, and you can pretend to be a woman, but
everyone knows who you really are, Patrick.

You may as well call yourself Santa Claus, for all the credibility you have.
