HP factory restore WinXp

I having difficulties with an HP laptop, running on WinXP.
I’m trying to factory restore it because when i shut it down it says
it can’t do a certain task (its on and off too quick for me to read
the whole information) and it blinks until it shuts down. When i start
it up it says its missing a certain file (this is also too quick for
me to read) and it goes into the regular desktop.

I’m wanting to factory restore but i tried putting in DRIVE SE and
that didn’t work. So i don’t know exactly what to do. Can anyone help?

Read the following article thoroughly, then follow
the steps outlined to perform a "non-destructive"
recovery operation.

If a "non-destructive" recovery will not work, then you'll have
to resort to a "destructive recovery" which will reformat the
drive, thus wiping it clean of all files before Windows XP is
reinstalled.
