Hello all,

Recently, I bought a used laptop. I realized that I
don't have "admin" rights and can't install anything on
it. Is there a workaround for this? I have a copy of XP
Pro that I own and could re-install the OS if necessary.
Please help.

Thanks,

have you tried logging on to The Administrator account?

If you can't log in, the best and easiest thing to do is format the
drive and reinstall Windows. That way it will all be set up just for
you and not the previous owner.

Boot, hitting F8 as the BIOS info/start screen goes to black, before the
Windows splash screen. Take Safe Mode and you should find
Administrator. Hopefully no password has been set for it (if there has
you will have to do that new install). If you can log on as
Administrator, then Start - Run the line
control userpasswords2
and you can select other users, Properties, and on the Group page, Other
select to put the user in the Admin group
