Outlook showing 2 inboxs when I only have one

I have changed from my laptop to a pc. New install of Outlook, but copied my
Outlook.pst file across. I now have 2 inboxes showing, and if I put anything
in the favourites I have one Inbox, plus Inbox in CV2005, and any additions
will have "name' in CV2005. My mail box shows Inbox and CV2005. How do I
get rid of this view to only show one inbox and not two. It also shows
multiple contacts as well.

Can you please clarify -- are you saying you have two identical sets of
Personal Folders? What version of Outlook?

Most likley you copied the *.pst file into your new computer rather then
importing it.
As Outlook has already an empty profile when it is installed, with copying
the old file it created a second profile inbox.

Just to be clear, if he tried to re-use his .PST rather than importing from
it, that is a GOOD thing :) However, if he copied one .PST over another,
he may have caused problems.

Hi!

The same thing happened to me as I got a new pc. Before swithcing I copied
the .pst file to a new location, exported my contacts, calendar and rules.

With the new pc in place I installed Office 2003 with Outlook. I started
Outlook but canceled the procedure of setting up any mail accounts. After
quitting Outlook I copied the old .pst file over the newly created one.

In Outlook I now have two Personal Folders in the All Mail Folders pane.
They are identical in content, but have a dfferent icon. When opening the
folder for personal folders in Data File Management, I have only one .pst
file. Though there are two Personal Folders in Outlook the .pst file's size
has not changed/doubled.

After importing the contacts and the calendar, I ended up with two instances
of each item and had to manually delete.

I would think that many users do the same thing, exporting contacts and
calendar (as they have no own files), and make a copy of the mailbox.
Personally, I was afraid of loosing something in exporting the mailfile.
Seemingly, the copy job was not the right thing to do, I admit that to you
gurus. But, how come there are two instances of the personal folders in the
..pst file, when I'm 100% sure that there was only one when the file was used
on the old machine? And why the double entries in contacts and calendar, when
I followed the book?

The program should take such a scenario into account!

Regards,
soe

Are you the original poster? Just trying to figure out if you still have two
identical sets of personal folders in your folder list, or if they're just
two different sets. If they're identical, create a new mail profile and just
attach your known good .PST to it. If they're not identical, right-click the
root of the non-default set and click Close.

I don't know why MS insists on telling people to import and export
..PSTs...it makes no sense...but we MVPs have already told them that numerous
times :)

Jocelyn,

No, I'm not the original poster. I found that the poster had a similar
experience as mine.

Yes, the two sets of personal folders are identical, i.e. the mails and
feeds are found in both. The only difference I can see is the folder icon in
the navigation pane.

Since they are identical, I will try the tip on creating a new mail profile
and attach the .PST to it. What will happen with the list of personal folders
then, will I have three? I'd like to have one ;-) You say "your known good
..PST" as you porbably think that I have more than one? I have only one .PST
file.

A sure sign of a corrupt profile, usually caused by importing a PST or
copying one PST over the top of another with the same name.

You should have one, if you start with a new profile.

Some people have several.
