outlook express

it will not retrieve my messages, it says there is an
error with the server 'pop3' what does this mean?
 
Post the entire error message.

Can you give us the "exact" error message? Can you send mail?
A shot in the dark, but are you using free yahoo mail? If so that's the
problem, you can't use Outlook Express to retrieve mail from Yahoo if you
have a free account. You have to pay for that convenience.
