Have you paid for your Yahoo mail account?

The most common problems for people having trouble sending/receiving email
are:

1. You are using the wrong mail server settings. Check your ISP's website (
or that of your web hosting company if your mail host is other than your
ISP) for the correct mail server settings for POP (Incoming) and SMTP
(outgoing). Most ISP's will also have a "walkthrough" to show you how to set
up mail using popular email clients such as Outlook Express, Eudora, and
Thunderbird. If they don't have instructions for Windows Mail yet, use the
ones for Outlook Express.

2. You have "outgoing mail server requires authentication" checked when it
does not. Or vice versa.

3. You are trying to send mail through an SMTP server that isn't your
regular ISP; i.e., you are trying to send mail through AT&T's server when
your ISP is Comcast. Some ISP's care about this and some don't.

4. Your user name and/or password are incorrect. Yes, you do have a user
name and password for your email. It probably has just been a long time
since you set this up (or someone else set it up for you) and you've
forgotten. Look through your ISP-related documentation or contact your ISP.
They will be able to tell you your user name and assign you a new password.

5. Your antivirus is set to scan emails and/or is one that causes problems
with your operating system (such as McAfee in Vista). Turn this option off
since it doesn't provide you any extra protection and tends to cause
problems.

Your issues are probably caused by 1 and 4.

Clearly you haven't entered your mail server correctly.
"(e-mail address removed)" is not a mail server (which wouldn't have
an @ sign), it's an email address. You need to ask your ISP what the
name of your email server is.
and this....

The host 'POP3' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the
server name correctly.
Account: 'POP3', Server: 'POP3', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL):
No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

Again, POP3 is not a host name. You need to get in touch with your ISP
and find out the names of your SMTP (sending) and POP3 (receiving)
servers.

In addition to what I posted - your incoming mail server is NOT your email
address. Go to Yahoo's webmail and check the server names you need to enter.
And BTW, XP doesn't have Windows Mail.
You either are using Outlook Express on XP, or Windows Mail on Vista.

The free version of Yahoo mail is only accessible in web browser view.

You can only use external access programs such as Live Mail or Outlook
Express when you have the paid option from Yahoo.

Gmail allows external access to their free e-mail service.

This statement if wrong. Free Yahoo Mail accounts can be accessed
from anything else beside the web interface also.

This "group" to which you posed this question to is for questions with
Windows XP, therefore people shorten it to "XP."

Windows Mail is an email client delivered only with a version of
Windows Vista. Please check the list of newsgroups and locate the
Vista group(s).

Please contact the maker of the anti-virus software you are using. It
seems that the anti-virus software is attempting to scan you email
messages.

No YOU are wrong. yes they can be accessed but only if a third-party utility
like YPops is used.
Otherwise, unless you have a .uk or a .fr (there may be others) only PAID
Yahoo accounts may be accessed using POP.
