outlook 2003 download duplicate emails when multiple pop accounts on same server

dear all,

I have a problem after my upgrade to outlook 2003 sp1 from outlook xp.
I am managing several accounts from outlook, some are from different
pop servers, but some are from the same pop server (e.g.
(e-mail address removed), (e-mail address removed)). And for the outlook 2003
machine, I have always had the setting to leave the message to be on
the server, as I use a separate machine that I consider as the master
to clean up the server.

Everything is fine in outlook xp, however, after I upgraded to outlook
2003, I am getting duplicate emails from those accounts that have
multiple accounts on the same pop server. Outlook will download a new
copy of the email everytime when I restart outlook, as if it has never
been downloaded before. It works fine after the first download if I
stay in outlook, but if I restart outlook, it will download a new
copy.

I have also found that, if I only download email from just ONE account
from each pop server (e.g. delete/disable download for
(e-mail address removed)), then everything will work fine, even with the
restart, but as soon as I re-enable the 2nd user, both accounts will
be downloading duplicate emails every time I restart outlook.

Again, this worked fine in OE6, in outlook 2000, and in outlook xp. I
have tried 1) turning off all rules; 2) disabling norton; 3) putting
the user2 account to a separate send/receive group in outlook 2003; 4)
upgraded to the latest sp1 patch; the only thing that I haven't done
is to start a brand new pst file, which I am hoping I don't have to
do. I have searched the group and found people with similar problems,
but no one has post solution.

Please, if anyone can help, please post their solution to the group.

Hi all,

My problem's fixed, I thought I will post a follow up so others can
benefit. What I ended up doing is delete all the email accounts
(which was migrated over from the outlook 2002 during the upgrade),
and then I recreated them one by one. Once I did that, the duplicate
problem is gone.

don't ask me why, but it worked, hope it helps you too.
