Outllook 2002 [XP] only opens in safe mode - too long to login

I am running XP Professional - since upgrading to Outlook 2002, it takes
forever to open up the login key OR it freezes - Alternately I have to close
re-open and it then goes into Safe Mode and still takes forever to open the
login box - any ideas how to resolve
