outgoing mail with attachments

When ever I try to send an email with an attachment it gets "hung up" in the
outbox....sometimes it never sends and sometimes the recipient gets the email
over and over...up to 50 times!!! This happens on my laptop, with vista and
avg free antivirus, and also on my desktop pc with xp and trend micro
antivirus...I've disabled both antivirus programs and it still happens. I've
called verizon, my dsl provider and they blame it on antivirus...BUT it
happens even if I TURN OFF the anti virus...any ideas??? I use outlook on
the desktop PC and windows mail on the laptop...happens on both. Mail
without attachments send fine...no problem...just with attachments.
Help...please and thank you.

If you have the same problem with Outlook on XP as you do with
Windows Mail on Vista, then you have to look for something basic.
What size is the attachment you are trying to send? Perhaps it is
bigger than what your ISP allows.

I agree, that seems logical, but I spent a long time on the phone with tech
support and we tried everything, they never asked me what size the file
was??? Wouldn't you think that would have been one of the first questions he
would ask me? I was looking through all the older posts for an answer and
found one that said to download windows live mail...I did that, so I guess
we'll see if it works...of course that isn't going to solve the problem on my
desktop pc with outlook...? I doubt that is the problem...doesn't make sense.
thanks for your help

Frankly, I don't put much stock in what the first tier tech support folks
say. They get paid not much better than minimum wage, and you get
what you pay for.
Were you able to ascertain the size of that attachment?

Windows Live Mail has many good qualities, but it will not help you with
this particular problem.

I need to call tech support again and ASK them what size file I'm allowed. I
just sent myself a file (photo) 1.48MB and it took 2 mins., but it did send.
Then I sent two photos 1.48MB and 2.16MB that took 7 mins. Could it be my
dsl?? Verizon FIOS will be available here in a couple months, maybe that's
the solution? I also just tried sending several pics from "my pictures"
folder. I never received it and it's not in my sent folder so who knows
where that went?

I suspect that you have WM (and I also suspect, Outlook Express) [not
Outlook], both set to break apart large messages at Tools>accounts>select
your
account>properties>advanced tab.

The default is set at 60KB.

You can try sending your message with that checkbox cleared.

Your ISP may have a maximum sending size limit in operation and reject
excessively large attachments?

Or You can set the break apart setting at say 500KB and that should be OK

The 50 Parts of the message that was sent can be made into one mail by
selecting each part and then on the Message menu choose 'Combine & Decode,
then double click the resultant attachment.

You should advise your recipient of how to do 'Combine & Decode'.

If you are unsure then please get back.

Your office firewall may have a rule that strips incoming attachments.
Check with the mail administrator at the office.

When you reply to a email from work, and it goes blank, are you
using Windows Mail or Internet Explorer? Does your office use
Outlook Web Access (OWA)?
