Outgoing e-mails stuck in Outbox

I am running my Gmail account thru Windows Mail and aside from the odd delay
from when the e-mail arrives in my Inbox vs. the Gmail notifier alert, it has
been working fairly well. However recently, some (but not all) of my
composed messages get stuck in Outbox limbo. I don't get any kind of error
message, they just never get sent. I've resorted to having to copy and paste
the trapped e-mails and sending them through Gmail on the Gmail homepage.

Anyone have any suggestions for me? Thanks very much.

Move any messages that you can from the Outbox to the Drafts folder.

Download and install this hotfix, with Windows Mail closed:

Messages may be stuck in the Outbox when you use Windows Mail on a computer
that is running Windows Vista

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it says for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works for
other folders.

Thanks Steve. I tried this. I even followed the instructions to determine
what System Type I was running so that I would download the appropriate
update. However, when I completed all the steps a message popped up that it
was a download not intended for my system (probably worded differently than
that, but that was the gist of it.) Strange.

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no protection not provided by the regular
resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee,Trend and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail
and Outlook Express and should be uninstalled. The latest version of
Trend's anti-virus seems to be causing problems too.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I actually use ESET Smart Security as my
anti-virus software (way less cumbersome than Norton), and disabling
out-going scanning of my e-mails freed them from their Outbox limbo. Thanks
again!
