ok here is the website to upgrade from 8.0 to 9.0 for the paid versions

upgrade license for avg 8.0 users

http://www.avg.com/us-en/upgrade-8-9

if you cannot find it you can type in
faq 2578

all you need to do is copy your license from AVG to this site. You can also
ask for the license to be sent to you via email.

AVG says to just install it - you do not have to uninstall 8.5

I do not know what you have to do for the free version, the free version is
not up yet at their site

Does it upgrade automatically, or do you have to download the upgrade
version? Both paid and/or paid?

Thanks Robin.

I see there's a 9.0 version of the Internet Security Suite on offer, too. I
shan't rush to upgrade myself but will wait a while and see what the
response is like (remembering previous AVG upgrade fiascos).

Hello Robin:

Thanks for the info.

Do you know - or can you tell from experience - if the new v9.0 is any
lighter on systems resources than AVG v8.x?

Thanks,
Jerry

I have the avg pro antivirus version
for the pro version AVG 9.0 will automatically uninstall 8.0
I did find a bug in the installation and notified AVG
What happens is when it installed on 2 computers that so far I put it on
running avg 8.0 Pro antivirus (I have 2 licenses for the product) during the
installation it came up with a message telling me there is a conflict with
another program but the box where this program would be was completely
blank. I told it to resume anyway and it uninstalled AVG 8.5 and all seemed
to go fine.
AVG is telling me as long as I did not uninstall another antivirus program
prior to installing this (which I did not) it might just be seeing the other
antispyware programs (since antispyware is built into AVG 9.0) and that is
what it is thinking is the conflict.
Since I run superantispyware pro and malwarebytes and spywareblaster with
avg 8.5 with no conflicts (and yes they all run at different times) I told
them I do not have any conflicts and so far I do not at all.

This AVG Pro (I do not know yet about the avg internet security- I will know
in about an hour when I upgrade 2 of my clients that have it, but yes it is
less blotted and runs a heck of a lot faster. I did NOT install the
security toolbar only because in the past it slowed things down and I did
not want to take that chance again.

I will let you know about the avg internet security as soon as I have had a
chance to upgrade it

As for the free version, I am awaiting AVG to answer me if you need to
uninstall AVG 8.5 first
When I know I will post that here too

this is what avg responded to me about the free version

"Yes, AVG 9.0 Free will most probably act same as paid version. It will not
be necessary to uninstall AVG 8.x Free.
However specification may change, because the product is still in the latest
testing phase."

my suggestion would be to uninstall avg 8.5 free then install 9.0
I uninstalled AVG Internet Security with firewall first then I installed the
9.0 version
I remember I had a problem on a computer when trying to put one on top of
the other the firewall messed up and I wound up with no internet.
I had to do a system restore back to prior to the install to finally get it
to work
This time on one of my clients computers running AVG internet Security 8.5 I
uninstalled the program and installed avg pro 9 and had no glitches at all

As for one of the computers that I installed avg pro 9 and left 8.5 on it
came back with errors then finally uninstalled it and installed the new
version

On the other computer I uninstalled AVG Pro first- (I left all the user
settings in) and installed the newer version and other than the box that
came up with the conflict software that did not show up on both installs, it
installed just fine

AVG Internet Security is running more smoothly than the 8.5 version, less
bloated too
