OE -> WM Import not completeing

Hi. We just got a brand new Acer laptop yesterday in replacement of the XP
machine of the same type that died after six months and are now attempting to
transfer things from the old XP laptop to the new Vista machine.

I am attempting to import mail from Outlook Express into the new Windows
mail and must say I am less than impressed so far. Why they decided they had
to change the entire format is beyond me and its getting me rather annoyed.

My problem is this. I can import messages from the OE dbx files into Windows
Mail, but its only partly completing the process then finishing up and saying
it was 'successful' when it did not finish. If a dbx file has 297 messages in
it, it is importing 95 of those, then stops. There is no error. It just says
its been successful.

This goes for any of the mailboxes that have more than 100 messages in them
(and some have several thousand its not even touching. :p Yes, we need to
clean up the mailboxes, but that was in progress when the old machine decided
to fry itself)

I've gone through messages in this forum and all seem to be on *how* to
import and regarding errors its giving. I'm not having trouble with errors or
with it finding the boxes to start with. Just on it finishing the job. :p Any
help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

This all depends if the OP and his dbx files are in one default folder like inbox or sent as an example and the size being a bit too large.

As well as the extent of the corruption of the dbx file.

They changed the message store format because of the very problems you are
experiencing. The files got very easily corrupted.

The import will fail if you have antivirus software set to scan email. You
might try disabling it completely before doing the import. Its also
possible the dbx file is corrupt and so it can only be partially imported.
See www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#oe2wm for details. You may need to extract
the messages from the file, or it may actually only have 95 in it.
