Not detecting a video capture device...

Brent

I recently purchased a Sony DCR-DVD101. I've loaded all
of the Sony driver's on my computer before trying to send
video into MM2. However, when I go to capture my new
video, MM2 pops up an error message stating that no video
capture device can be detected. Any thoughts on what I
do to correct this situation?

Sony's DVD cameras connect to the computer via USB and the file is an MPEG-2
one..... you need to capture with the Sony provided software and then
convert the file to an AVI for use in Movie Maker.

See the Digital Camcorder's > Sony page of my site for some comments....

Unfortunately movie maker is not appropriate choice for your editing needs.
You can do it. But it involves a lot of conversions to and from original
footage losing quality and consuming time and resources.

Consider some other editing package that can edit the ovies without
conversion.
For example VideoReDo (http://www.drdsystems.com/VideoReDo/) can edit
MPEG2/DVD without conversion.
