I just bought a sony vaio media pc. I can play video from camcorder on other software, but when I try to capture in MM2 I get error "A video capture device was not detected" Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you get an answer to your question I'd like to know what it is as I have the same problem. Currently I found the only method that works is to record using media center like I'm recording a TV show by hooking up with the coax and using channel 3. I then take the media center tv show and pull it into DV Gate software and output it to a AVI file that I can use in MM2. Kind of cumbersom but it works...

Hello there,

Is your camera Digital or Analog?? If Digital you should be connecting via a
Firewire or iLink cable to the appropriate card in your computer. You should
check in My Computer > Manage > Device Manager > The name of your card and
ensure that it is both enabled and working properly.

If your camera is Analog, you will need an analog capture device to sit between
your camera and computer. A visit to my website and taking a look at the Links

Hi All -

Can you both post the make/model of you capture devices?
If I can know what they are, I can get them in-house, and try to repro the
problem...

Thanks!

To succesfully capture analogue you need an analogue capture card. This will
often record in a format peculiar to the card, pinncale for instance use
mjpeg. Which will be why the click to dvd will import the video and it is in
a weird format.
If you want full sized avi files captured you need either a analogue to
digital internal pci card or an external box.
See here for reviews of each.

look at canopus and miglia.

Cheaper is the pinnacle one, but quality is not as good.

Also look at www.papajohn.org and see the analogue capture pieces.

I am wondering if you figured this out yet? I am having the same problem.
I can get Click to DVD to recognize my camera and have been able to save the
video to my computer, wrong format, so I know my cabling is working
properly. If you figure it out, let me know...If I figure it out, I will let
you know. Thanks!!other software, but when I try to capture in MM2 I get error "A video
capture device was not detected" Any suggestions would be appreciated.

OK -

We're halfway there -- Now I need the make and model of your *other* capture
device (the capture card in your Sony Vaio). You should be able to get this
info from the device manager on your PC.

I did find some info claiming that the Vaio RS340G shipped with an ATI 9200
and (optionally) a Giga Pocket Personal Video Recorder -- both of which
appear to support Mpeg capture. Just to set your expectations, MM2 will not
work with Mpeg capture devices (like those typically shipped in MCE
machines).

Thanks!

Kristen,
If you are able to help me, I have a Sony CCD-TR516 analog camcorder and a
Sony Vaio RS-430G computer. I am using a RCA cable with Red, White and
Yellow ends...The camera only plugs into the Red and White. I have tried
plugging into both the front and the back RCA jacks on the computer to no
avail. I am able to capture video using this method in a different
program...Any help is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!!

Kristen, this is as close of an answer as I have found for this problem. I am
having the same problems as many others as it would seem. My computer has the
same products as listed in the latest response. I do have the ATI 9200 and
Giga Pocket Personal Video Recorder. I can capture vieo using Click to DVD
(Mpeg). As you stated MM2 will not work with Mpeg capture devices? How can I
get the analog information into a file type that MM2 will understand. Is
there some type of converter for Mpeg files?
