nonsense in microsoft .pst import attempt

Hello all,

I have done 2 hours research on this topic but no one seems to have
covered my exact dillema.

This week I reformmatted my hard drive (with win 98) and reloaded all
of my factory settings) you know...clean slate. Before shutting down I
backed up all important data. Among those files a .pst that had all of
my Outlook Express (v6) settings was saved too. Now with this fresh
install the OE program won't allow me to load the very .pst file it
created on my previous install.

I see that people claim OE doesnt understand .pst files. THEN---

#1. how do I get my old settings and emails back into my new OE6
program

and

#2. why the hell cant OE6 recognize a file that OE6 created BEFORE I
wiped my drive?

I also ran a inbox repair tool on the .pst file and it claims it is in
healthy shape...yet OE still wont import it.

Any ideas?

I'm really NOT exactly sure of what the 'dilemma' is!!!
NO VERSION of Outlook Express uses (or backs up)
a '.pst' file.

I believe you have a " Polylemma of Order 'n' " -
i.e. You are NOT talking sense!!!!!!!!!!

Microsoft (Office) Outlook uses '.pst' files, and
will certainly read your backup!!

You backed-up the wrong file. Outlook Express uses dbx-files.

Note you are also in the wrong newsgroup. This is an Microsoft Office
Outlook forum.

Outlook Express is family of Internet Explorer and Outlook of the Office
family.

Here is the link for the right forum

Good Luck!

You are right....after some further investigation I imported the files
into outlook 97 and they opened up fine. The problem is they are a
much older version of my inbox not the current OE inbox. In other
words it sounds like the last two years worth of email is lost in my
harddrive---never to be recovered. Quite dissapointing.

I rememeber two years ago I switched to outlook 2000 for a brief time
to do remote work for a company. The person who reformatted my drive
this week probably assumed (incorrectly) that those .pst files were my
recent files for OE. Guess what....they weren't.

I suppose I deserved it. If I hadn't been messing around in the system
folder none of this would have needed to be done to begin with.

Thanks anyways,

Dusk
