Outlook 2000 Pst Misbehaving

I know there must be an eventual solution with Windows Xp Office 2000
- Outlook.

The Pst file exceeded 2GB. Outlook hungI deleted files to bring it
under 2GB. A few days later it grew over 2GB. Outlook hung. This time
I was unable to delete the files. Whatever I did Outlook 2000 hung. I
ran scanpst.exe. That failed. So I ran Microsoft’s crop tool. I
trimmed PST down to 1.9GB. I ran the scanpst. Scanpost successful. I
opened Outlook. Whatever I did within Outlook, Outlook would hang. I
researched google.

An article indicated before repairing Office 2000 to rename all
to .old (Mapi32.dll, Mapivm32.dll, Extend.dat, and Outcmd.dat. I
rebooted, went into Add/Remove and let Office run the repair. That was
successful.

I opened Outlook. The only effect was being able to open task manager
with application Outlook ‘not responding’

If I open Outlook I can see all the crucial folders, the contacts, all
my work for the last 12 months sitting there unavailable. I am the
accountant here and I need to get my work restored to a normal state.
I need help. I do have a couple backups.

I went to this new computer freshly installed with Windows 2000. I
installed Office 2000 on this Windows 2000 computer. I imported my
older, smaller (1.6 GB) Pst file. That failed ! No contacts, and none
of the usual folders that I used to have. Only a fully populated inbox
was restored. I again imported this Pst file. Using the import tool
when I browsed to the Pst file I could see ( all subfolders) and when
the import finished –again only an inbox.

I have my original workday Xp computer with Outlook 2000 – and Outlook
2000 is compromised. I have this new computer (test computer) with
Windows 2000 Outlook 2000 and that too is compromised.

I don’t know what to do. I have the current Pst (the one I trimmed
with the Microsoft tool) . I have the Pst file before the Microsoft
trim. I have the Pst file before I did anything to the Pst. I have a 3
month old Pst. I have all Pst files saved on the working computer, on
a usb hard drive. Thus I have plenty of my work saved, however, I am
unable to work in Outlook with any of these Pst (once I do an import).
Outlook hangs.
I even removed from the \user\application\microsoft\outlook the
current Pst file . . . emptied the directory – and copied in another
Pst File. And that process also failed to allow me to have a normal
Outlook 2000 session.

What can I do? All my clients, those communications, all my crucial
work is stored in those Pst files? I sure do miss that Outlook Express
files with the folders marked as .dbx. With the Pst file the situation
becomes so precarious. Let me know how to fix this. If I knew there
was a third party tool that actually worked I would be willing to
invest.

I shouldn’t have to be experimenting with Outlook to get it to work.
It worked fine for the last two years. And suddenly I am completely
stuck with a non responsive Outlook.

Thanks for indulging this long note. And I hope to read here a
solution.
Thanks

Outlook 2k can baulk from 1.6gb
Using the crop tool to bring it down to 1.9gb may be insufficient
After using the crop tool you need to run scanpst.exe on the data file
several times, if outlook then opens successfully you should then
immediately archive to remove a significant amount of data, then compact
the pst
Any Archive also has the size limitation, so it is often prudent to create a
new archive for subsequent archive data.
As posted daily neither importing or exporting is the correct way to deal
with outlook data.
With outlook configured and working on your new PC, and your old data file
located in My Documents, within outlook you open that old data file, what
you do next depends on your needs.
