no sound

ok ppl i have a hp xe824 wit onboard sound and i have
everything configured the way it should b but i still have
no sound. It is turned on in the bios , all drivers and
codecs are present , but in the sound and audio properties
everything is greyed out. if you guys could give me some
suggestions it be greatly appreciated.
