Message: i was attempting to free up some space on my hard drive by doing a
defragmentation, however during the process something happened and now my
computer has no sound. when i went into sound and audio device and looked at
the hardware the audio codec, legacy audio driver, and media control devices
location was unknown. i could only guess thats the reason i no longer have
sound. When i try to play a song on itunes i get this message (itunes has
detected a problem with your audio configuration audio/video playback may not
operate properly) can anyone help me out?

Use System Restore to take your system back to a point where sound still
works.

By the way - defragging a disk does NOT free up any space on the disk. It
merely rearranges the fragments that make up your fragmented files. It is
also extremely unlikely that it had any effect on your sound. I suggest you
start looking elsewhere for the real cause.

Defrag would NOT cause that ; use the system recovery to when it
worked . ( Defrag would keep the same amount of space )
