Get updated drivers for your hardware from your motherboard mftr. since the
audio is onboard.

Go to Microstar's website and download the drivers for your model mainboard
for Windows XP. Get all the drivers for the board, you may have others that
need updating as well. Reinstall the chipset drivers first. You should have a
CD with drivers on it that came with the mainboard. If you've lost the disk,
you can download them all from the website.

The drivers are available for free from Microstar. Go there and get them.
Never use any of those driverguide type services. Not only do they cost
money, they frequently offer the wrong or obsolete drivers. Most of the
people here in these newsgroups don't recommend getting the drivers from
Microsoft either. Best to go to the mainboard maker's website. The drivers
are always correct and free.

There are some pictures of an MS-6701 here. SIS648/SIS963 chipset.

Audio chip is Avance (RealTek) ALC650. It can be
seen in the corner, here.

You can get a driver directly from Realtek.
I like the ZIP version, as you can look at the
INF files in WDM with Notepad. The FTP servers
here are a bit of a joke (I like going to the
extra trouble of using their "express" server,
to be greeted by a 2.3KB/sec! download speed.
Funny stuff...).

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...=23&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

WDM_A406.zip 18,802,279 bytes

A similar motherboard from that era, might be
the MSI 648-Max. It uses SIS648/SIS963/ALC650, but
the jack configuration might not be the same. The
MSI download server also runs at a decent speed.

http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=531

http://download2.msi.com/files/downloads/dvr_exe/Realtek_AC97_MB.zip

That file appears to be an older version, of something
you'd get from the ReakTek site.

Trying to find help from Medion, is like begging
for coins on the street.

any suggestions?

Check the BIOS, and make sure that the AC97 audio is enabled.

how would I check it? I have been into bios and cant find the AC97 audio.
Look under "Integrated Peripherals" "Onboard Device" then "Onboard Audio
Device" Make sure the device is enabled then save the BIOS settings when you
exit.

"Everything" means that you have also visited the Microstar website
and looked for compatible drivers.

My guess is that you haven't.
