no sound from my headphone jack

i have switched from a digital to analog signal and still have no sound from
the headphone jack on either my dvd-rw or cd-rw. sound still come thru the
speakers weather digital or analog. m/b has onboard digital audio.

If you are talking about a headphone jack on the front of the drive itself
(and not one provided on the computer) then you're talking about electronics
that is completely separate from the computer and which needs no help from
the computer to supply sound out of that jack. In that case, your headphones
are probably faulty - have you tested them on a radio or some other device
besides your computer?

If you are talking about the jack on the *computer* and you know that the
earphones really do work ok, then check device manager for indication that
something is not installed correctly. If all is ok in device manager, then
make sure that you don't have anything "muted" in your sound control panel.
