No Response to Opening

I am running Windows XP.. and recently some of the
programs don't respond when i double click to open them.
One of these programs is Norton Anti Virus... also, when
i run msconfig teh windoow opens briefly and tehn
dissapears! I tried unloading Norton... still same...
reloaded norton and also no changes!!! HELP PLEASE!
