programs won't run

XP-Pro -- noticed suddenly norton anti-virus would not run -- others
similar cannot open. Tried reinstalling NAV -- but no change. Will
appear briefly then disappear. Type run and msconfig and same
situation, cannot do anything with setup -- it disappears. Anyone have
any suggestions?

You probably are infected with one or more of the viruses that
immediately break av programs - something like Klez or Yaha. Get your
machine off the Internet and off any other networks - if the machine is
networked, you've probably infected all the other networked boxen, too.
Download Stinger from McAfee here:

It doesn't have to be installed and you can run it in Safe Mode (which
you should do). What you do next depends on what happens with Stinger,
so if you need more help afterwards, please post back.
