Problem Uploading/Downloading

I'm running XP Home, SP3. Slowly everything on the PC seems to be failing.
I've run various PC checks but they are are showing up as "passed". I/E7 is
sometimes unworkable, just won't connect, another time there's no problem.
I've tried disabling all add-ons but it made no difference, I've also
reinstalled it. I cannot upload pictures to my online album or to E-Bay.
Various programmes won't load, starts to do so then disappears off the
screen, also tried reinstalling these too, no difference. The latest problem
has prompted me to post here, today I cannot even download the latest Windows
Updates, all 7 failed. Please, can anyone help.
Oh, I've run scans with Webroot Sypsweeper, Norton Anti-virus, Nod 32 and
Trojanhunter, they all found nothing.

Ooops, sorry, should have posted here instead. I turned off my Nod32
antivirus and everything downloaded with no problem, obviously the settings
were too high. Seems that everyone else is still thrashing it out on the
other posting (Windows update) despite my offering a solution that worked for
me.
