Open program troubles

When opening programs such as norton live update it runs
for a while then dissapears. Also I tried to download
the first service patch for windows and that runs but
when it comes to installing it, it also dissapears. Help
on this would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like your computer has a virus. However, without more
information, it is not possible to give you a specific answer. You
might try scanning with a small antivirus program like Stinger from
McAfee (http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/) which looks for 30+ of the
most common viruses. Stinger is free and doesn't require installation.
Run it in Safe Mode.
