That said, due to VERY HIGH DEMAND, you may have to be patient. I used
the Oxford University mirror and it downloaded just fine. That was a few
hours ago and now all servers are busy due to VERY HIGH DEMAND.

This is hardly a feature..

"The 71 and 96 series of proprietary nVidia drivers, as provided by the
nvidia-glx-legacy and nvidia-glx packages in Ubuntu 8.04, are not compatible
with the X.Org included in Ubuntu 8.10. Users with the nVidia TNT, TNT2, TNT
Ultra, GeForce, GeForce2, GeForce3, and GeForce4 chipsets are affected and
will be transitioned on upgrade to the free nv driver instead. This driver
does not support 3D acceleration."

And Vista supports those chipsets?

No, Vista doesn't, but isn't one of the 'selling points' of Ubuntu that one
can make use of old hardware?

I presume that you have read the release notes thoroughly. Do you still wait
for the CD before you install?

The date and time was 10/30/2008 12:06 PM, and on a whim, Alias ;-)
pounded out on the keyboard:
Not a whole lot of people have those old video cards. A new Geforce6
will cost you around 20 EUR.

Next?

Alias

Just the majority of Dell workstations and laptops that are two to five
years old or so...but I suppose not many of them will be installing it
anyway. I know Dell wasn't the only one using those chipsets. They
were all extremely popular.

I believe more users that built their own boxes will install a version
of Linux over those that purchased a pre-built one. And second would be
those that modified their pre-built in some way (added a hard drive,
video card, etc.) Those that haven't done either won't venture into
unchartered territory IMO.

Try using a GeForce6 AGP 256MB card on Vista.

Nope, I downloaded and burned it to a CD earlier today.

I use a PCIe GeForce 256mb card in my Vista machine. Should there be a
problem with it, because mine runs fine..
