No keyboard and mouse in dos

David

I am unable to use an old dos program because it does not
recognize my keyboard and mouse. In fact, MS DOS Edit
doesn't recognize the keyboard and mouse either. All
windows software runs great. I am running XP Home, MS
IntelliType Pro software, and IntelliType/IntelliPoint
wireless combo with a PS/2 connection. Does anyone have
any ideas?

You have a USB mouse and keyboard? If so, that may be the problem, as DOS
predates those.

The drivers for your keyboard and mouse are loaded when Windows starts. When
you are in DOS the drivers aren't loaded.

Sounds logical, but here is some more interesting data.
One of the dos programs can run in a dos "window" and
recognize the keyboard and mouse just fine; however, when
I try to run it in "full screen" mode, it does not
recognize them. The other dos program defaults to "full
screen" mode. Thanks.

Part of the problem may be that DOS does not exist in XP IN ANY WAY,
SHAPE OR FORM!!!!!

Oh, there's a command line window that resembles the old DOS box, and
it can run certain old commands/programs, but don't be fooled. It's
not DOS, and never will be DOS.

If you old DOS program is trying an end run around XP by trying to
directly access your hardware (keyboard/mouse), then you will have
problems.

MS-DOS is dead. Accept that fact. Live with it. Deal with it.

If you have to use DOS programs that won't run in XP, either fall back
to a DOS based OS or spend some buck on a true DOS emulation program
that will run inside XP.
