USB Keyboard installation problems (MS Wireless Laser Desktop 6000)

W

Wolfgang Hammon

MY CONFIGURATION:

Hardware:
Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 6000 with
- Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 v2.0
- Wireless Keyboard v3.0

System:
Windows Vista Ultimate SP2
Duel Core Processor 2666 MHz / 4GB RAM
Software: IntelliPoint/Intellitype 6.3

My Problem:

Although Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 is installed properly, I'm not
able to install the 6000 keyboard.

After Installing Intellipoint/Intellitype-Software there is a message
(translated from German) like:

"Failure while installing driver software
Microsoft USB Dual Receiver Wireless Keyboard
A file cannot created, if it's exists".
(Code 28)

After several times installing and uninstalling (as well in safe Windows
mode) and other things (like unplugging the original ps/2 Microsoft Wireless
Foto keyboard) I don't know what I could do else.

Surprisingly the installation worked properly in my litte mini notebook, but
not on my normal PC.

I suggest any remaining cache files or wrong entrys in Windows registry, but
I don't know...

It's a shame: I have bought such a great keyboard and can't use it!!!

I would be very pleased to get help from you.

Regards
Wolfgang

Is there a setting in your BIOS to enable a USB keyboard?

I think so, because my former USB Keyboard worked properly and - funny: when
I start Windows for example the "F8"-key to start Windows in Save Mode
works, but NOT the normal keys (a, b, c ... 1, 2, 3).

As well in Windows: I can start programs with special keys using my new
keyboard, but the normal keys are out of function.

Strange...

Hope, you have a good idea. Thank you for the moment, John - looking forward
hopefully...

setting in your BIOS to enable a USB keyboard?

Hi, Wolfgang.

Your hardware is almost identical to mine, and I'm also running IT/IP 6.3.
I've dual-booted for years and ran mostly Vista Ultimate x64 until switching
to Win7 Ultimate x64 during beta and now RTM.

My motherboard has 4 onboard USB slots on the back of the case, plus headers
for several other USB connectors. I have a 4-slot hub plugged into one of
those connectors with a 3-foot cable so that I can put the hub closer to my
desktop for devices that I change often.

When I plug my desktop 6000 USB transceiver into a slot on the hub,
everything works fine - until I need to dual-boot into Vista or back to
Win7. Then the OS menu does not get my keyboard's up/down arrow signals to
select another OS. (I don't recall if <F8> works, but it probably does not.
I can't even enter the BIOS by pressing <Del>. Apparently the hub is not
recognized until Windows starts its driver.) So, I have to unplug the
transceiver from the hub and plug it into a native USB slot on the back of
the computer. Then there is no problem with reception during boot-up or -
most of the time - during normal operation. But often, when using the
back-of-the-case USB slot, the keyboard will just "go to sleep" while I'm
typing - right in the middle of a word! :>( Nothing seems to wake it up
for a minute or two - after which it continues normally for a while. During
that minute or two I try many things - swapping batteries, re-synchronizing,
banging keys - until something works; but I think that what actually works
is the time that I spend trying those things.

So I can have my choice of narcolepsy: While booting, or while typing. But
I haven't yet managed to eliminate it entirely. I've complained often, but
no relief has been forthcoming - or even promised.

Good luck! And please post back if you find a solution.
