Using XP Media Center Edition 2005 on Compaq Presario & having problems with
PS2 mouse. Purchased today a Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 6000 and
mouse. What is the proper procedure to "install" the new keyboard. With pc
off do I just unplug PS2 keyboard and PS2 mouse, setup Wireless keyboard and
mouse and turn pc on and "voila" I'm up and running? Excuse the stupid
question but I'm a novice at this.

What do the instructions tell you to do?

Before doing anything with the new keyboard and mouse, go into BIOS and set
(enable USB keyboard and mouse (legacy) support.

Next, read through the instructions twice just so you know what you have to
do.

Follow the instructions to the letter, or the whole process will end in
tears..

Mike Hall's advice was excellent but I'd just like to add that there is
probably a bunch of optional software bundled with the mouse. I'm thinking
not only of apps but of soft to add "special functions" to keys...press a
key, open OE...press a different key, open IE. Like that. You may or may
not want to do that but you don't need that soft for normal use of the KB
and mouse.

The driver bundled with Microsoft desktop sets will install extra stuff into
the mouse Control Panel applet by default
