No Input at Startup Screen

Hi! Just a problem I'm getting: My computer starts up as normal, but when I
get to the Login screen I cannot input anything. The pointer is locked in
place, and my keyboard/mouse/touchpad do not work. I know the screen has not
frozen because there is only one user on my computer (me), and I can see the
line blinking in the password box. If I type my password (invisibly) and hit
enter nothing happens. I've tried booting in safe mode, doesn't work. I don't
have my Windows XP installation disk with me.

A system restore point was created about 20 minutes before this problem
occured, and I would like to access that if the problem is not directly
solveable. I have tried to select the "Last Known Good Configuration" option
from the F8 start menu, but after Windows loads for about 2 seconds I get a
BSOD and everything starts over. And no, erasing my whole hard drive and
starting anew is no an option available for me, and I'd rather not bring it
into the shop for another 2 weeks. I'm sure there is a way to access that
restore point, but I don't know how to get there. I need help urgently! Thank
you!
