Hi

If you could explain your problem more concisely in regard to AOL, then someone may be able to help you.

The servers you are connecting to through AOL are, sadly, performing very
poorly these past few days. Have not heard any reason for this. As a former
AOL user, I celebrate the day I switched to OE. You can use it to search,
delete, highlight, and any number of other tricks, including fonts. The
readability of the blue page you are using now is very poor, and there are
all those slow-loading pages. Further, it cannot remember, long-term, what
you have read.
Please tell us why you hesitate to use OE. So many knowledgable and
intelligent folks do use OE, despite being aware of the many other options
available.
PS: If you choose to boycott newsgroups, that is solely your loss.

The issue isn't reading newsgroups using OE vs. reading them with a
browser. It's reading newsgroups with a real newsreader vs. using a
browser. OE is only one of many. Most of the others are not as prone
to being hacked as OE. See http://www.tucows.com/news95_default.html
and HTTP://WWW.NEWSREADERS.COM/ and
http://more-news-groups.com//newsreadersoftware.htm for a few. Forte's
Free Agent seems to be one of the most popular.

I have had to capitulate as well.
Although I much prefer the web reader to
this archaic Outlook Express for some
unknown reason IE6 will not allow me to
access NGs any more. mmmmm. Very odd
indeed.

I friend was relegated to using AOL because his business pays for it. He
really missed using Outlook Express. I found a third party utility eNetBot
which allows AOL users to use Outlook Express. He now uses Outlook Express
with his AOL connection with no problems.

I don't know if the utility does mail AND news groups though. I know that
it does mail.
