Newbie: Changing the date (Outlook 2003)

Dave

I'm afraid I don't have all the terminology down, but hopefully I can
ask the right question.

We have a master slide. When viewing the 'slide master' I have a
"title area for autolayouts" and "subtitle area for autolayouts". I
can close the 'master view' and then edit these areas when creating a
new presentation, filling in titles as is appropriate.

The problem is trying to convince the date field to work the same way.
Right now the only way to alter the date is to "View -> Master ->
Slide Master". But I want this to be editable in the same way that the
title/subtitle fields are, without having to know about the Master
view (so that people don't edit the base template). But the field is
not available to be edited in the normal view - there is just nothing
to "click" on.

If someone could point me in the right direction it would be most
appreciated.

Thanks a lot
Dave

Welcome Dave,

Do you just want the date to reflect the current date, or do you want the
user to be able to have the user enter the date to be displayed.

The first is simple, the latter quite a bit more complicated.

While you can't turn the date/number fields into "Click here" placeholders,
that doesn't seem crucial to what you're asking.

Try View, Headers & Footers. I think that'll get you there.

First...I'll fix the subject so it actually denotes
"powerpoint"...sigh.

Now then - from the answers so far, it seems like there is no way to
do this. The situation is this:

We want a very simple template. Ideally, that would mean Title,
Subtitle and Date are all available as 'clickable' fields on the first
page of the presentation. As it stands, only the Title & Subtitle
fields do that - so the user has to know how to find the Date field
(or it gets missed entirely).

Is it really that complicated? And if so, is there a workaround? Is
there a way to make another type of field that we can have act like
the built-in Date field (i.e. nothing appears on the presentation if
you don't use it, but you can click on it from the first page if you
do)?

As mentioned before, you can't add new "click here" placeholders.

Other than using the View, Headers & Footers command to set the date in the built-in date
placeholder (which you could certainly move to a different position and reformat to suit),
no. I don't think so.
