Master title style and Master Subtitle Style

K

Kim in Melb-Oz

On the Master Slide (or a layout if necessary), I want the Master title style
and the subtitle style in the same 'text' box i.e. they are separated using
the enter key e.g:
Click to edit Master title style
Click to edit Master subtitle style

Also, when setting up the Master text styles, I want to use 4 levels. For
the 1st level, I do not want to use a bullet or any indents however for the
2nd, 3rd and 4th level styles, I do want bullets and indents. I can't seem
to make this work.

Are either of these problems solvable?
Thanks heaps

1. You can't have two different text styles (bold, size, font face, etc.) in
the same placeholder.

You can create your own additional placeholder if necessary, though. (New
feature in 2007.) Here's how, if you need it:
http://www.echosvoice.com/2007/placeholders.htm

2. PPT really likes a bullet on the first line. If you want that first line
to have no bullet, but subsequent lines to have it, then you must train
users to type the first line, hit Enter, then hit Alt+Shift+right arrow to
create the lower level indent. If they just hit Tab instead of
Alt+Shift+Arrow, they won't get a bullet. They can also use the Increase
List Level button on the Home tab of the Ribbon (in the Paragraph chunk).

Thanks again Echo. Have managed to create the layout slide using your
solution which works very well.
By the way, your web site is great. Also answered some questions I had
about customising the colour pallets. I'm not a developer so XML stuff is a
little scarey but I'll give it a go. Thanks so much.

Thanks. I'm always glad to know that color stuff is useful! Holler back if
you get stuck.

Oh, you didn't ask this, but I wanted to mention that the new placeholders
won't work in previous versions of PPT. So if users are using the template
you're creating in 2003, the subtitle placeholder won't appear for them to
type in.

If you're making adjustments for your own use -- or for another 2007 user's
use -- then whatever they type into the placeholders will indeed show up in
2003 and prior. It's just that the functionality doesn't exist for 2003 (and
prior version) users. Make sense?

I am having a similar problem with creating additional placeholders on a
Title slide master. I used the existing Title and Subtitle but when I create
the third placeholder (using the method described at
http://www.echosvoice.com/2007/placeholders.htm) it appears on the slide
master but not as a "click here to insert text" box on a slide when I choose
that layout. To make matters worse, I need that text box to be NO BULLET,
FLUSH RIGHT, and have 2 different text colors in it!!! Yikes!

You're using PPT 2007, right?

You have to add placeholders to the slide layout, not to the slide master.

I'd recommend creating a new title slide layout -- you can duplicate the
existing title slide layout -- and adding the subtitle to that.
